The Welshpool area is at the heart of an upgraded amber warning for snow with up to 20cm expected to fall on higher ground on Thursday and Friday.
The Met Office has upgraded parts of the yellow warning for snow covering the Midlands and Mid Wales to amber from 8pm Thursday through to 9am on Friday morning.
The longer yellow warning is still in place from 5pm tomorrow until noon on Friday.
The snow is being blown into the area by Storm Goretti, the first named storm of 2026, with widespread disruption anticipated in the run up to the weekend.
Temperatures, however, are expected to remain around 1° until Saturday when sunshine will be accompanied by a drop in temperatures to as low as -6° in the Welshpool area.
“Heavy snow, associated with Storm Goretti, is likely to lead to disruption and dangerous travelling conditions Thursday night into Friday,” the Met Office has stated.
