One of the Welshpool primary schools closed in recent years for the new school on Salop Road and the Welsh language school at Maesydre will be demolished in the coming weeks.
Permission has been given to level the former Gungrog School to make way for 16 bungalows on the site.
Letters have been sent to residents explaining that the demolition will happen “over the coming weeks”, with planning permission granted for the new Powys County Council-owned housing estate.
“Demolition works are anticipated to commence on October 30 and are expected to be completed by the end of December 2024,” the letter states.
“The demolition work will be undertaken by Bond Demolition on behalf of Powys County Council and will be carried out between the hours of 08:00-18:00 Monday to Friday with possible Saturday morning working if required.”
The letter goes on to apologise to residents for any disruption and explains that no work vehicles should be parked on the road during the period of work.
Anyone wishing to enquire about obtaining one of the new houses should contact the Powys County Council Housing Development team at affordable.housing@powys.gov.uk.
