Not a happy new year for football club

One local football club is urging vandals to ‘do the right thing’ and come forward after damage was done to its spectator facilities and glass was smashed on the pitch.

Montgomery Town Football Club took to social media to highlight the issue, coming just days after Bishop’s Castle faced similar problems at their ground across the border.

Vandalism at sports facilities seems to be a regular occurance across the area, but Montgomery are giving those responsible a chance to put it right.

“Sadly, over the Christmas period we discovered that a group of individuals have caused a great deal of damage to our supporters stand,” the club posted last night.

“As a club we are incredibly disappointed and saddened by this. A deliberate act of vandalism will not be tolerated, and we will be taking it further if those responsible do not come forward.”

Followers then highlighted that fireworks were being let off in the early hours over Christmas and one reader said that broken glass and fireworks had been removed from the pitch.

Another commented that broken glass had also be found at the new playpark close by.
