Welshpool to start hunt for new Town Clerk

21/10/2024 @ 10:19

Nearly a year after Anne Wilson vacated the post, Welshpool Town Council will start its efforts to find a new permanent Town Clerk this Wednesday.

A special meeting will be held behind closed doors for the council’s Staffing Committee to start the process of permanently replacing Ms Wilson.

Vanessa Voysey has done a good job of filling the void as a stand-in, but a long term solution is required.

The ‘extraordinary meeting’ is accessible for the press and public on Zoom, but once the initial formalities are done, the meeting will head into ‘private session’ when press and public are excluded.

This is so financial issues can be discussed openly, with the main item on the agenda stating: ‘To consider and agree the action plan, advert, job spec, person spec and pay scale for the Town Clerk advert and to appoint a recruitment panel.’

What does a Town Clerk do?

The Town Clerk role is a key position for Welshpool. They are responsible for policy provision and legal advice to the council, for the efficient financial management of the council (supported by the Responsible Financial Officer) and for providing administration and management of the council's activities, forward planning, and projects.
