“The dual Olympic dream is very much alive”

Welshpool athlete Adele Nicoll announced last night that her “dual Olympic dream is very much alive” after winning the Welsh shot put title with a new personal best.

Adele threw a fantastic 17.79m to retain a title that she has virtually made her own over the past decade, and it placed her 8th on the UK all-time list.

It shows that she remains on course for the incredible target of competing at both a summer and winter Olympics.

“The dream of becoming a Summer and Winter Olympian is still very much alive,” said Adele, who is also blazing a trail of glory as a bobsleigh pilot.

It has been a tough few weeks for the reigning British shot put champion with major tweaks to her technique made with the assistance of coach, Ryan Spencer-Jones.

“We know there’s more in the tank, but what a huge step in the right direction,” she said. “Ryan and I have been putting in an absolute shift to try and make some big technical changes recently.

“The importance of having people around you who listen to you, believe in you and care about you is essential.

“Thank you to all who are or have been a part of the journey.

“Any elite sports person will know that making technical changes can be frustrating and inconsistent at first. You have to embrace the opportunity for growth but boy is it a rough ride. I’ve been through it all this week, but we’re not giving up and we will continue to lay the bricks.”

Adele has split her training between the two sports, with the aim of making the LA Olympics in 2028, and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.
