You really will be able to go shopping with just a pound in Welshpool on Saturday when the doors to the new and much anticipated Poundland Store open for the first time.

The store opens in the former Co-operative building in Berriew Street, which has been empty since November 2012 with Poundland celebrating 25 successful years in business.

The Co-operative closed just two years after taking over from Somerfield. Prior to that the building was occupied by Gateway Supermarkets on the site of the former White Lion Hotel.

“It’s a very special year for Poundland,” said a spokesman. “Not only are we celebrating 25 years of offering customers amazing value every day, but now are also proud winners of the 2015 Grocer award for own label range of the year for Make Up Gallery.

“Welshpool shoppers will find there’s 1000’s of great products right across the store so whether you’re looking for everyday essentials, sweet treats or beauty and skin care for the whole family there’s something for everyone.

“And best of all, everything’s only £1.

“And if that’s not enough, we now have an amazing baking range by Jane Asher as well as DIY products from Celeb builder Tommy Walsh both exclusive to Poundland.

“There’s also treats and crafting for the kids, breakfast essentials, fridge fillers, healthy eating products, beauty ranges and much more in store,” added the spokesman.

We’ve been true to our £1 price point ever since our first store opened 25 years ago there’s now over 600 stores.

“There are lots of other offers like 3 for £1 and ‘Buy One Get One Free’ deals across a total of 17 categories including food and drink, health and beauty, household, gardening, DIY, pet, stationery, books, DVDs and toys.”
