Welshpool Town Council has confirmed that three candidates are in the running for the vacant seat on the Llanerchyddol Ward.
All three have declared themselves as independent candidates, meaning they have no political leaning, and the list includes Kelly Meredith, who is known for her tidying up work around the town. She is trying to join the local authority for an eighth time.
The other two candidates are Jackson Quarrell and Richard John White.
An election will be held on Tuesday, August 19, at Welshpool Town Hall from 7am-10pm.
Richard Williams, Town Clerk, said: “We’re pleased to have strong local interest in this election, and I would encourage all residents in the Llanerchyddol Ward to use their vote.
“If you are not yet registered to vote, you can do so by visiting the gov.uk website and registering by August 1.
“Every seat on the Council plays a vital role in representing the community’s voice and shaping the town’s future.”
For those who wish to vote by post, applications must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Powys County Council by 5pm on Monday, August 4.
Applications to vote by proxy must be received by 5pm on Monday, August 11.
