Three months after revealing that The Original Factory Shop was recruiting staff for a potential move into the vacant Sainsbury’s building, we are still waiting patiently for news.
The national retailer that claims to sell “big brands at up to 70% off across multiple departments including fashion, beauty, home and more” told us last night that there was still no confirmation of plans.
Last year, the Burnley-based chain that said it was launching an ambitious plan to open 50 new stores across the UK to add to its 166 currently operating.
And in June, a series of job vacancies were posted on its website, including a store manager and an assistant manager, as well as a number of shop floor roles.
But there has been little activity at the former Sainsbury’s building since which closed its doors last year.
Last night, a spokesperson from The Original Factory Shop reiterated: “We have not confirmed any plans at this stage.”
But there is brighter news on the high street, where workers have been spotted at the former WH Smiths building and a sign (pictured) posted stating that it has been “acquired by Ludlow Show Company for Walnut, opening late Autumn”.
The town will be hoping for an Autumn retail boost after a torrid couple of years that has seen a number of closures in the town centre.
