Mydentist bites back after criticism

The company that runs Welshpool’s under fire dental practice has hit back at angry patients who have taken out their frustrations on staff.

Mydentist has issued a statement after admitting that their service is “not back to normal yet” but urged patients to “please continue to be kind”.

The practice has faced heavy criticism this year for regularly cancelling appointments due to the issues caused by the Covid-19 lockdowns and restrictions, conceding that there is a “long list of patients waiting to be seen”.

The statement follows similar statements issued by local doctors surgeries who have also seen an increase in abuse aimed at their employees.

“Since the summer, most of the UK has returned to business as usual after pandemic restrictions were lifted. However, in healthcare we’re not quite back to normal,” said Dr Nyree Whitley, Clinical Director.

“In dentistry the Covid safety procedures set by the NHS that we must follow have not yet changed. This means that we have fewer available appointment slots than we did before the pandemic.

“Infection Prevention and Control Guidance also state that dental practices must still continue to abide by social distancing and patients are to wear a mask when attending dental practices, unless exempt.

“Current Covid restrictions, along with the closure of dental practices last year, and limitations on the types of treatments we could offer during much of 2020, means that there is still a long list of patients waiting to be seen.

“Our practice teams are working exceptionally hard to fit everyone in as quickly and as safely as possible, including those who need urgent dental help and people who want to schedule in their regular check-ups.

“Unfortunately, our teams are beginning to face increased criticism from people frustrated that we have not been able to see them. We understand that this is a challenging time for everyone, but please be assured that we are doing everything we can to support you. Please continue to be kind.”
