Welshpool u-turn on dropping Town Hall Remembrance Day event

13/10/2026 @ 09:16

Plans to streamline this year’s Remembrance Service events from three to two in Welshpool have been dropped following a rethink.

Last month, it was proposed at the Town Council Events & Planning Committee meeting that the traditional Friday Memorial Garden event would be moved to Armistice Day itself, ending the need for the two-minute silence and service in front of the Town Hall.

But, at the latest meeting, it was revealed that after liaising with the local Royal British Legion branch, there was a change of heart and Welshpool will be back to having its original three events which are:

Welshpool Memorial Garden Remembrance Service, Friday, November 6, 2pm

As part of Welshpool Remembrance, Welshpool Town Council holds a ceremony at the Memorial Gardens located at Howell Drive and is likely to finish by approximately 2.30pm.

Remembrance Day Service, Sunday, November 8

Members/groups in the parade are meeting at Park Lane entrance, where they will form the parade ready to march to St Mary’s Church. The parade will start at 10.40am to arrive at St Mary’s at 10.50am and be seated ready for the service. After the service, members will form outside the Inglenook Cafe and parade back to Welshpool Town Hall, where refreshments will be served.

Act of Remembrance, Wednesday, November 11, 10.45am

Outside the Town Hall, Broad Street, Welshpool at 11am, a two-minute silence and the reciting of the Exhortation and the Kohima Epitaph will be held outside the Town Hall in Welshpool.
