This morning’s Welshpool 10k has been hailed as another glorious event, but it also brought an end to a brilliant challenge that has won the backing of the whole area.
Created by former head teacher Philip Jones, the 8x10k Challenge for Parkinson’s Cymru saw eight 10k events organised across the area over the past eight days.
Hundreds of local school children have taken part with the end result being over £19,000 raised for the charity.
Philip was joined by another group of fundraisers this morning at the Welshpool 10k with several shadowing the fundraiser for all eight runs.
“We thoroughly enjoyed the whole week,” said Philip. “We set off with the aim of raising awareness of Parkinson’s, getting people to exercise and raise money.
“We have done all three and are now in excess of £19,000 raised.
“The running numbers have increased to 16 active participants and we are already looking at next year’s challenge.
“A huge thank-you to everyone who has taken part, sponsored or donated.”
