One of the big winners from the 2025 EE BAFTA Film Awards is a former pupil of Ysgol Llanfyllin.

Lol Crawley, who attended Llanfyllin during the 1980s and early 1990s, won the prestigious Best Cinematography BAFTA for his incredible work on The Brutalist.

The winners were announced at a star-studded ceremony hosted by David Tennant at The Royal Festival Hall in London, broadcast live on BBC One and iPlayer.

The Brutalist was one of the evening’s biggest successes, securing four BAFTAs, including Best Director for Brady Corbet, Best Leading Actor for Adrien Brody, Best Original Score, and Best Cinematography for Lol.

When accepting his award, Lol paid tribute to the film’s exceptional cast, including Brody, Felicity Jones, and Guy Pearce, saying: “To dance with Adrien in those handheld moments will stay with me for a very long time.”

His talent and dedication to the craft of cinematography have rightfully earned him this well-deserved recognition on one of the world’s biggest film stages.

“Lol’s journey from a pupil at Ysgol Llanfyllin to an internationally celebrated cinematographer is an inspiration to our students and the wider community,” said Ysgol Llanfyllin Headteacher, Dewi Owen.

“His success highlights the incredible potential of young people from our school and local area to achieve greatness in the creative industries and beyond.

“On behalf of everyone at Ysgol Llanfyllin, we send our warmest congratulations to Lol and look forward to seeing more of his extraordinary work in the future.”
