The fight against the ruthless drug gangs who are blighting Welshpool has continued with another raid in the town yesterday finding a £50,000 cannabis haul.
Police vans were seen on Salop Road, opposite the hospital entrance, and officers barged down a front door to gain access to yet another drugs hub. The property was empty and no arrests were made.
But in a touch of irony from the latest location is that a 'Neighbourhood Watch' sign is located on the wall of the property!
For months, readers have been complaining about the smell of weed down Salop Road, and one even contacted us to say that drug dealing was openly happening in the hospital car park opposite with numerous calls made to report it.
But it appears that the time is now up for the illegal gangs with another major raid. Scottish Power engineers were also on site, a sign that the occupants had tapped into the mains electric to go undetected.
"Officers in North Powys executed a warrant at an address in Salop Road, Welshpool yesterday (January 16) where 50 mature cannabis plants, believed to be worth around £50,000, were seized," a police spokesperson told us. "No persons were present at the address and no arrests have been made."
Earlier this week, police raided a house on High Street and discovered around £350,000 worth of cannabis plants. It follows other raids in the past year on empty town centre premises that have yielded finds worth in excess of £1 million.
