New Year’s weather warning issued

31/12/2024 @ 07:48

New Year’s Eve celebrations could be a wet one tonight after the Met Office issued a yellow warning for rain, with Welshpool slap bang in the middle.

Up and down the country, outdoor celebrations are being cancelled, including Edinburgh’s famous Hogmanay, and residents in the Welshpool area are being urged to be cautious.

Our Yellow Warning for rain has been put in place from 6pm tonight for 24 hours, meaning that roads tomorrow could be flooded in the usual trouble spots.

There is also a “slight chance” of power cuts so the advice is to ensure homes have a good supply of torches and candles. It is also expected to be windy.

The forecasters are promising some dry, but chilly weather, after this current wet front for Thursday and Friday, but more rain, and possibly snow, could hit the area at the weekend.
