Welshpool’s Mayor has responded this afternoon to cutting criticism from a county councillor over the Town Council’s handling of the Ann Holloway Centre.
This morning, Cllr Graham Breeze didn’t hold back in accusing the council of dragging their heels over negotiations for a long-term lease with charity, Welshpool Community Haven, who provide day care services to dozens of elderly residents from the centre every week.
The charity said two months ago that they were in danger of going out of business before Christmas unless they received a long-term lease to enable them to apply for grants.
The days are ticking down towards that deadline and Cllr Breeze raised the red flag with his rant - County Councillor blasts Town Council
But this afternoon, Cllr Phil Owen, Town Mayor, explained: “The Welshpool Haven is currently operating from the Ann Holloway Centre under an informal license whilst negotiations on the terms for occupancy are ongoing. This is expected to be concluded shortly, but the council is unable to comment on commercial matters that remain subject to contract.”
