Welshpool Town Council is calling on the town to back this Sunday’s carnival, with the officer pulling the event together saying it is set to be “a rerally good event”.
Events Co-ordinator Kimberly Wright provided an update to councillors at this week’s Events Committee meeting and said the response from the community was encouraging.
“We have been very, very busy,” she said. “There are lots of exciting things happening so it is going to be a really good event and we are very excited about it.”
An increase in floats and wallking entries will make the parade a colourful affair, with the Boxing Club successfully having a last-minute call for a lorry answered so that they can take part.
The parade is due to start from noon at Berriew Street Car Park and go up the High Street, down Jehu Road, Union Street and round past the church and Tourist Information Centre before turning left into Church Street and left again into Severn Street at the traffic lights, down Howell Drive and onto Maes-y-dre.
The Town Mayor, Cllr Nick Howells, will open the event at 1.30pm and there will be performances throughout the day, from Porty-y-Waen Silver Band, Sally Gartell Dance School, Welshpool Church In Wales School, Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng, Midwinter Academy of Performing Arts, Aaron Evans and Karnival Knowledge.
Entertainment is expected to run through to 7pm.
There are a number of children's activities free of charge, including, Circus Avago, Wonder Wheelers, Hawks Meet and Greet, Wildlife Display and the recycled bike scheme so if you have an old/unused bike, please bring it along to donate to the recycled bike scheme. There will be a number of bikes on the day for people to take away with them.
There will also be craft, community and other stalls including a variety of food stalls, cider & Perry, Mid Wales Classic Vehicle Club, donkey rides and many more. The Welshpool Bowling Club will also be serving beverages in their club house.
The Town Council also minuted at Wednesday’s meeting their appreciation to the Montgomeryshire Youth Theatre for the loan of their PA system.
