Buttington Trewern CP School welcomed the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Rocio Cifuentes, and her team yesterday (Monday) for a special visit focused on children’s rights and pupil voice.

Pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 participated in engaging workshops exploring the 42 Articles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Through a range of interactive activities, pupils learned more about their rights and the importance of ensuring every child’s voice is heard.

A highlight of the visit was the launch of the school’s new Super Ambassadors for 2026-2027. The ambassadors will champion children’s rights throughout the school, lead the Monthly Matters Assembly on issues affecting learners across Wales, and provide feedback directly to the Children’s Commissioner’s team.

Their work will also help to ensure that young people’s views are represented at Welsh Government level.

Headteacher Anna Griggs (pictured below, middle) said: “We were delighted to welcome Rocio Cifuentes and her team to our school. The workshops gave our pupils a valuable opportunity to develop and share their understanding of children’s rights and their role as active citizens. The launch of our new Super Ambassadors marks an exciting step in strengthening pupil leadership and ensuring that every child’s voice is heard.”

The visit was a memorable and inspiring experience for pupils and reinforces the school’s commitment to promoting children’s rights and empowering learners to make a positive difference in their community.
