Changes are coming to the way post-16 Powys education will be delivered in the future.
Powys County Council wants to improve what’s currently on offer for local sixth formers and has tabled a number of options that they hope will provide more options, improve results and stop the dreaded ‘brain drain’ of students heading across the border to England.
But one proposal on the table is to create a single North Powys sixth form hub in Newtown, and closing the sixth forms in Welshpool and Llanfyllin whilst also seeing some students at the Welsh-medium Bro Caereinion head there too for English speaking lessons.
MyWelshpoolTV has met the leadership teams of all three local schools to hear that they have been working hard behind the scenes to create Trisgol + - one sixth form offered from the three school campuses - as a preferred route forward.
In the first part of our three-part series, we hear how the potential changes could impact the all-age Ysgol Llanfyllin.
Look out for video reports in the coming weeks from Welshpool and Bro Caereinion.
