Two local running stars have shown their support of the 10x8 March Challenge in aid of Parkinson’s UK Cymru, an initiative being organised by former teacher Phil Jones.
Forden’s Andrew Davies (pictured), recent winner and record holder of the Snowdon Marathon, and Hannah Thomas, one of Wales’s fastest over 40 athletes, have joined the organisation committee as well as looking to complete a few of the challenges as part of their training schedules.
“I’m absolutely delighted to be involved in Phil’s March 10x8 Challenge once again,” said Team GB legend, Andy. “After taking part last year, it was incredible to see what Phil and the team achieved - it was nothing short of inspirational.
“This year looks set to be even bigger and better, and I can’t wait to see the impact we can make. I truly admire Phil’s enthusiasm and dedication to such a great cause, and hopefully, we can raise a huge total for Parkinson’s UK Cymru.
Hannah added: “I met Phil when he came to visit Welshpool High School, where I teach English, as part of his challenge in 2024. I heard the rumour that a charity run was taking place and I am never one to pass up the opportunity to run, especially if it is in aid of a great cause.
“Listening to Phil recount his personal experience of the impact that Parkinson’s can have was very moving and I committed to helping in any way that I could with his next challenge.
“Running can have such a positive impact on people’s lives: from fitness to mental health benefits, as well as bringing together communities in support of one another, which is what this challenge is all about. I can’t wait to see how 2025 can build upon the foundations of last year!”
Meanwhile, Morrisons Welshpool are hosting a bike challenge in their foyer on Wednesday, January 22, to raise some funds for the challenge which already stands at £4,000.
