Considering we are covering what’s supposed to be a ‘sparsely populated rural area’, MyWelshpool’s Facebook page has received an incredible 462,000 views on our posts over the past seven days.
This staggering figure underlines the importance of credible and independent local media in ensuring that our extensive readership is kept up to date with the latest news and information.
As Storm Goretti approached, our web site was receiving huge traffic numbers, and this morning’s browsing update report on Facebook shows that a large number of those were being driven by clicks through from the social media site.
Not only were we able to share credible information from official sources like the police and county council, but we were also using you, our community journalists, to share your own experiences.
This undoubtedly saved readers from taking journeys and routes that may otherwise have caused them problems. So, it was a team effort that very much relied on our readership too.
We have always used our social media carefully, ensuring that you are kept up to date with what is relevant to you, and on Facebook we currently have almost 16,000 followers.
X is also an invaluable tool for connecting the sites to our readership with nearly 5,000 followers also finding their way to MyWelshpool from there.
Now in our 16th year of operation, we continue to welcome a new generation of readers and over the coming months we will be working on new ways to connect with them, and more.
The independent local news sector is under threat across the country, but this past week shows just how important it is to not only survive, but also to thrive for years to come.
