10k challenge adds a Welshpool business angle

The March Charity Challenge, in aid of Parkinson's UK Cymru, has teamed up with Welshpool Town Council to set up a free Business Network Meeting.

The week-long challenge, which includes a series of eight 10k runs and walks has been the idea of former Caereinion Headteacher, Philip Jones (pictured complenting last year's 7x10km challenge), and is now set to offer an opportunity for local businesses to meet each other and work locally.

The event, sponsored and supported by town councillors, will take place at the Corn Exchange on Friday, March 21, from 1.45pm.

“We will hear from local Councillor Ben Gwalchmai regarding the access to the Town centre Wi-Fi and other tech initiatives. There will be a further short presentation from a local business and then an update from Parkinson’s UK Cymru,” said Philip.

The event will allow local businesses to talk to each other and then join the 10K Challenge at 2.30pm where people can walk and chat with like-minded business people or indeed run the 10K, whilst raising money for the Charity.

“There has been a void in the opportunities for local businesses to meet and chat. If this is supported by local businesses, then we will look to arrange a repeat meeting every two months. The event is free,” added Philip.

“The support of the town council and councillors as well as town council staff has been invaluable,” he added.

The eight-day challenge which will start on Sunday, March 16, has already raised over £4,000 and has recently added Welshpool High School and the Primary School Cluster to the lengthening list of organisations that have shown their support for the event.

Morrisons Welshpool will be hosting a bike challenge in the foyer this Wednesday (January 22 from 10am-2pm and 4-7pm) with local businessman Tony Brooks of Brooks Cycles, helping to support the challenge. Great Fitness Gym will once again supply the spinning bikes as well as taking part in the event.
