Tragedy as body found in Welshpool river search

It is the news that we have been dreading all evening, but Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that a body has been found following a massive search of the River Severn near Welshpool tonight.

Emergency services that included specialist marine-based fire service teams as well as the coastguard had worked all evening after reports of a missing person in the River Severn near the Leighton Road shortly before 5pm.

And this is what we have been asked to share tonight from the local police force: “Following a multi-agency search in the River Severn, Welshpool, sadly, we can confirm that a body was recovered at around 8pm.

“Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

“Emergency services remain in the area and ask that members of the public stay away whilst enquiries continue.”
