Welshpool Golf Club reopens

12/05/2020 @ 07:56

It has been a fast moving story today, but Welshpool Golf Club has announced tonight that it will be open for play tomorrow (Wednesday).

Earlier there was confusion as to whether Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s easing of Covid-19 exercise restrictions to include golf would apply to Wales, and this afternoon Wales Golf said that it would advise clubs here to open with restrictions in place on Monday.

But Welshpool has been preparing for this decision with the necessary protocols ready to ensure safe golf can restart. The clubhouse will remain closed.

A club spokesperson told us: “The decision to start with ‘golf only’ tomorrow has been made following discussions with Golf Wales. For now, players must play by themselves or with members of their household only. They will also need to book a tee time before coming to the club.”

Llanymynech Golf Club, who are affiliated to Shropshire, announced earlier that they too would be open with restrictions in place tomorrow. There has been no news coming out of Lakeside or Newtown golf clubs yet.

Members at Welshpool Golf Club will be greeted by a rejigged course which tees off on the former seventh hole. We’ll reveal more on that later in the week.
