Two more heroes will be added to the town’s War Memorial, is has been announced.
A proposal has been recommended by the Town Council’s Services Committee for the two fallen heroes to be added in recognition of their service and sacrifice.
The two soldiers to be added are:
William David Edwards
Born in Welshpool and resided at Waterloo Shop Salop Road. Died May 21, 1915. Killed in military service. Noted on the National War Memorial web site and on the brass plaque in St Mary’s.
Albert Henry Rudge
Born in Welshpool and grew up living at the Mermaid Public House in High Street. Died November 22, 1919 due to injuries suffered during World War 1. Has a headstone in Christ Church.
The names are expected to be added in time for the town’s WWI centenary celebrations later this year.
