Owners suspect arson in carpet warehouse blaze

26/05/2017 @ 07:45

Fire last night swept through a Welshpool carpet warehouse with flames from the incident visible from most areas of the town – and the owners suspect arson.

The blaze took place at Canalside Carpets just before midnight with firefighters from across North Powys in attendance along with other emergency services.

And this morning Martin Gough, owner of the Canalside Carpets business took to Facebook to condemn what he described as a “cowardly” act of arson. Mr Gough said he hoped CCTV images would identify the culprit.

In a statement he said: “Flooring & blinds won't be open till next week due to a fire in store shed. Sorry to all our customers that won't be getting their carpet today as everything has been destroyed.

“I will get in contact with you all today and re-order your flooring for next week sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

Dyfed Powys Police, who are still investigating a major arson attack in the town last month, are appealing for information by telephoning 101.
