The van tool thieves are back

It’s not the news we like to hear but nevertheless it is important to share after the way this crime wave struck the area last year.

Following a winter lull, the van tool thieves appear to be back following a spike in recent reported break-ins around the Welshpool area.

The police advice is clear to tradesmen, keep your vehicles secure.

Sergeant Matthew Price said: “Prevention is better than cure and I urge vehicle owners to do all they can to make life as difficult as possible for opportunist thieves who are on the lookout for easy pickings.

“We would advise people to install extra locks on their vehicles and park their vans with the lock against a wall to make access difficult.

“If valuables or tools must be kept in a van, please ensure they are stored in internal boxes with an additional lock.

“We also urge people to remember the basics of keeping unmanned vehicles locked with the windows closed at all times.”
