Fitness day 10: supplements

Great Escape are taking us to the next level as we hit Day 10 of our 12 days of pre-summer fitness.

As well as a tough exercise to try, they are telling us everything we should need to know about taking supplements. Today, personal trainer Chris Greatorex shares his words of wisdom…

“For day 10 of June, we’ve got another advanced movement: A knee tuck into a pull up is one that will cause plenty of aching the next day!

“In the hanging pull-up position, bring your knees up to your chest and back down for the knee tuck, working your abs. After this movement, go ahead with a regular pull up.

“Alternate between the two continuously for around six-eight reps if you can, gradually building up to three sets of 10. You’re getting ab and core work out of this as well as strengthening your back and arms with the pull ups.

Supplements are something we spoke about in our ‘30 days of fitness’ column back in April.

“We’d like to reiterate that they are not completely essential to get you where you want to be if you already have a good diet.

“We don’t want to see people wasting way too much money on products that certain companies promote that you don’t necessarily need. It’s too easy for people to think they have to spend all of their hard earned money when they could just change their diet slightly and get results just as easily.

“We recommend sticking to the basic supplements like whey protein, creatine and just regular protein bars initially just to help your muscles get the best recovery they can.

“It’s an industry driven by people wanting to make money out of people who sometimes don’t have the knowledge on different products that they probably don’t really need to reach their fitness targets.”
