It was a memorable moment at Guilsfield Old School on Saturday when one of its rooms was renamed the ‘Beaumond Room’ after Richard ‘Dick’ Beaumond, who had dedicated almost seven decades to the village airgun scene.
Dick passed away in February 2023 at the age of 96, after 66 years with the club, not to mention supporting the area’s airgun league in various senior roles.
Many of those years were spent shooting in the Old School’s ‘back room’ which has now been renamed in his honour to recognise his dedicated service, not just to airgun but to the community as a whole.
Thanking the venue for the gesture, Dick’s granddaughter Chelle Jones said: “He spent many hours there over the years shooting airgun, calling bingo, and generally ‘bodging about’, as he would say, painting, fixing stuff and keeping the place tidy. We just wish he was still here to enjoy this moment.”
Dick and his wife, Joan, were also known for their involvement in producing the village Spotlight magazine for 50 years.
