Mike wants to buy Shrewsbury Town

Welshpool businessman Mike Harris has confirmed that he is still interested in buying Shrewsbury Town Football Club, despite seeing an offer turned down last year.

Mr Harris is the current owner of TNS FC in the JD Welsh Premier, the most successful team in the domestic league which has also made its mark on European competition.

This season, the club played its home European matches at Shrewsbury’s ground, sparking speculation that Mr Harris was building links with the club.

And last night, with the Shrews facing relegation to League Two, Mr Harris confirmed that he tried to buy the club prior to the Euro campaign, and is still keen to take it over.

He wrote on X: “To stop speculation regarding Shrewsbury Town FC, my company put a bid in September last year substantially higher than the rumoured new bid.

“At the time, it gave Roland (Chairman) a way out and the town a fighting chance to stay up.

“I am a football man and can show success over 20 years and would be happy to engage with fans or a group of potential investors to get STFC back to the glory days when me and my grandfather watched in the riverside.”

Mr Harris describes himself on X as a “game changer”, and he has amassed significant wealth through creating and investing in companies in the telecommunications sector. He has also invested heavily recently in the local hospitality sector with The Pinewood and The Breidden coming under his portfolio.

He is a former pupil of Buttington Trewern County Primary School and Welshpool High School.
