The Kings Head A have clinched the Welshpool and District Darts League sponsored by The New Saints FC with a match to spare, writes Steve Lloyd.
The champions elect beat the Green Dragon C 6 -1 to open up an unassailable 10-point gap from the Green Dragon A with only seven points to play for.
John Gamble, Kacey Jones, Dave Rix (180) Oscar Hyland (180) and both doubles went for the Kings Head A, while Roger Knight grab a consolation leg for the Dragon C. Al Moore hit a 180 despite losing.
The Green Dragon A did everything possible by beating the Grapes A 6-1, but the gap remains too wide. Den Harris, Rob Shingler (180), Mitch and Rhys Butler all won for the Dragon A, while Gareth Isaac won for the Grapes A. The doubles were won by the Dragon A. Despite losing, the Grapes A’s Andy Ralph threw a 180.
The Compass are third after a 4-3 win in a close game with the Punchbowl. Dan Hoseine (180), Cameron Williams and Gareth Richards winning for the Compass while Adam Jones and Liam Astley won for the Punchbowl. The doubles were shared.
The Westwood B beat the Oak 4-3 with Carl Dockerty, Jordan Harding and Jamie Cater winning while Mike Walsh and Hywel Lloyd took the Oak single’s points with the doubles shared.
The Red Lion Llanfair won at home to the Westwood A 4-3 with Arwyn Watkins, Cai Watkins and Tom Evans all winning, while Alan James and Gareth Ashley replied the Westwood A with a doubles won for each team.
The second division will go right to the wire with only two points separating the top two. The Owl & Pussycat stay top after a fine 5-2 win over the Grapes B who had Robbie Davies and Mac Nicholl on the scoreboard. But Joe Jones, Callum Greatorex, Ian Ward and both doubles went to the league leaders.
The Pheasant kept the pressure on with a 7-0 win at home to the Red Lion Misfits. Bobby Gough, Rich Jenkins, Billy Evans, Lewis Evans, Rob Finney and both doubles gave the Pheasant a full house.
The Powis Arms are in third following their 6-1 win at Castle A. Simon Richards (117 out shot), Sam Evans (180), Konrad Scott, Graham Pierce and both doubles went to the Powis, while Mark Smith won for the Castle.
The Angel started life in their new sports room with a 4-3 win over the Black Lion Llanfair. Jack Pryce, Ben Mac and Huw Humphreys won for the Angel while Efan Davies and Dan Morgan won for the Black.
The Lion Caerhowell lost at home to the Kings Head B but the match details have not been posted.
