The Kings Head A took a huge step towards securing the Welshpool and District Darts League, sponsored by The New Saints FC, with a big derby win that extended their lead to nine points, writes Steve Lloyd.
The Kings took the Guilsfield bragging rights by beating neighbours The Oak 7-0 with wins for Gareth Steadman (13-dart 501 and 2 x 180s), Oscar Hyland, Jon Gamble, Dave Rix, Kacey Jones and both doubles.
The Green Dragon A are on 72 points after a hard fought 4-3 win over the Westwood B. Shaun Humphries, Robin Shingler and both doubles accounted for the Dragon A while Jordan Harding, Jamie Cater and Bryn Evans won for the Westwood B.
The Westwood A found the going tough at third-placed Compass, suffering a 5-2 defeat with Gareth Ashley and Duncan Cork giving the visitors a 2-0 lead. However, the Compass came back strong and took the next five games with Cameron Williams, Dan Hosiene, Brian Jones and both doubles won. Westwood’s Alan James hit a 180 despite losing.
The Green Dragon C edged the result against the Punchbowl 4-3 with Dave Knight, Al Moore and Gethin Stephens winning for the Dragon C, while Liam Astley and Chris Jay triumphant for the Punchbowl. The doubles were shared.
The Grapes A went to the Red Lion and won 4-3 with Gareth Isaac, Andy Ralph and Colin Quinn winning for the Grapes A, while Arwyn Watkins and Neil Summers won for the Red Lion A. The doubles were shared.
In the second division, the Owl & Pussycat are now three points clear at the top after a fine 6-1 win against the Black Lion. Joey Jones, Matt Knight, Joe Searle, Jacob Schofield and both doubles went the Owl’s way, while Iestyn Pryce won for the Black Lion.
Second placed Pheasant gained a point after a fine 7-0 win against the Lion Caerhowell. Billy Evans (180), Richard Jenkins, Rob Finney, Bobby Gough, Lewis Evans and both doubles accounted for the Pheasant.
Castle A stay in third after losing out by the odd game to the Kings Head B 4-3. Paul Roberts and Mark Smith (17-dart 501 and a 109 out-shot) won for Castle, while Alex Howard, Paul ‘Ircol’ Jones and Gwyn Jones won for the Kings B, with the doubles shared.
The Grapes B hosted the Red Lion Misfits and succumb 2-5. The in-form Mac Nicholl (180) won for the Grapes B while Liam Williams, Jacob Bellison, Barry Jones and Bob Titley won for the Red Misfits. The doubles were shared.
In the last game in division two, the Powis Arms travelled to the Angel and won 6-1. Jack Pryce the only winner for the Angel while Sam Evans, Graham Pierce, Konradd Scott, Alun Jones and both doubles secured the Powis Arms win.
With three games to go it is still very close with a total of 21 points to play for.
