Dragon defeat allows Kings Head to increase lead

The drama at the top of the Welshpool and District Darts League sponsored by The New Saints FC continues after the Kings Head A’s closest rivals lost, writes Steve Lloyd.

The Kings edged a 4-3 win at the Westwood B who had Jordan Harding and Jamie Cater winning, while Dave Rix, John Gamble and Mark Emberton won for the visitors with the doubles shared. Darren Hyland hit a 180 on the night.

But second-placed The Green Dragon A dropped points at third-placed, Compass, 2-5. Rhys Butler and Robin Shingler won for the Dragon while Dan Hosiene, Brian Jones and Cameron Williams won their singles for the Compass who also took the doubles.

The Westwood A are a further seven points behind in fourth place after a 5-2 win at the Oak Guilsfield. Aled Jones and Hywel Lloyd won for the Oak while Alan James (180), Duncan Cork (180), Gareth Ashley and both doubles went the Westwood A’s way.

Only one point separates the Punchbowl and the Red Lion A in mid table after the Red won 4-3 at the Punch. Neil Summers, Clive Jones and Arwyn Watkins won for the Red Lion A, while Chris Jay and Tim Barley replied for the Punchbowl. The doubles were shared.

In the bottom of the league clash, the Grapes A remain bottom despite beating the Green Dragon C 5-2. Roger Knight and Al Moore won for the Dragon C while Andy Ralph, Shaun Jones, Colin Quinn (106 out shot) and both doubles went the way of the Grapes A.

In Division Two, the Owl & Pussycat have their noses in front by one point after a 6-1 win at the Kings Head B. Glyn Jones won for the Kings, while Callum Greatorex, Matt Knight, Joe Jones, Speedy and both doubles went to the Owl.

The Pheasant are second after a 5-2 home win against the Grapes B with Richard Jenkins, Billy Evans, Rob Finney and both doubles securing their points. Rob Jones and Mac Nicholl won for the Grapes.

Castle stay in touch in third, just five points behind the leaders after a 4-3 loss at the Black Lion. Bryn Lewis, Tom Bowen and Dan Morgan (111 out shot) for the Black while Brian Williams and Paul Roberts won for the Castle. The doubles were shared.

The Powis Arms are fourth after a fine 6-1 win at the Red Lion Misfits. Rhys O Evans won for the Misfits, while Alun Evans, Conrad Scott, Sam Evans, Harry Jones and both doubles were picked up by the Powis boys.

Last but not least, a hard-fought game at the foot of the table saw the Lion Caerhowell beat the Angel 4-3. Charlie Weaver, Robbie James and Lewis won for the Lion while Allister Williams and Huw Humphreys won for the Angel. The doubles were shared.
