The Kings Head A saw their lead at the top of the Welshpool and District Darts League sponsored by The New Saints FC division one cut to just one point, writes Steve Lloyd.
While they beat the Red Lion A 5-2 at home on Friday evening, the Green Dragon A won 7-0 to narrow the margin.
The Kings picked up their points through youngster Oscar Hyland, Kacey Jones, John Gamble and both doubles with Clive Jones and Neil Summers (121 out shot) replying for the Red Lion who also saw Cai Watkins hit a 180.
But the Green Dragon A bounced back from last week’s defeat to whitewash the pub’s C team.
Shaun Humphries, another youngster, Rhys Butler, Dave Boyle, Robin Shingler and Mitch Butler (160 with a double start) won with both doubles also secured to pull them closer to top spot.
The Compass stay in third place after a 4-3 win at home to the Westwood B who are now fourth with Dan Hoseine, Brian Jones and Cameron Williams all winning for the Compass while Chris Proctor and Theo Davies won for the Westwood B. The doubles were shared.
The Westwood A are fifth after a 7-0 win at home to The Grapes A. Gareth Ashley (156 out shot, plus a 15-dart 501), Steve Lloyd, John Gibbs, Dave Watson and Martyn Whitby and both doubles went the Westwood A’s way.
Thoughts are with Keith Bonner at this time, the ex-captain of the Welshpool Super League team and also instrumental in setting up the Grapes B team this year, who is recovering in hospital from an operation.
Lastly in the first division, The Punchbowl went to the Oak in Guilsfield and won 5-2. The home team’s Mike Williams and Hywel Lloyd won while Liam Astley, Chris Jay and Garry Lewis won for the Punchbowl, who also took both doubles.
In the second division, the Owl & Pussycat have gone joint top after a fine 6-1 win at home to the Lion Caerhowell. Matt Knight, Joey Jones, Callum Greatorex, George Pryce and both doubles went to the Owl, with Lewis replying for the Lion.
Staying joint top are the Pheasant after a 5-2 win at the Angel. Jack Pryce won for the home team, while Bobby Gough, Richard Jenkins, Billy Evans and Rob Finney won for the visitors. The doubles were shared.
Castle A dropped to two points behind the leaders after losing out by the odd game at the Grapes B. Rob Jones, Mac Nicholl and Charlie Wynes won for the Grapes B, while John Coulson and Paul Roberts won for the Castle A with the doubles shared.
The Kings Head B dropped further behind after a 6-1 defeat to the Powis Arms Pool Quay. Alan Fessey, Harry Jones, Sam Evans, Conrad Scott and Alun Jones all won for the Powys Arms while the doubles were shared.
