The first-round proper of the Welshpool and District Darts League Cup, sponsored by Canalside Carpets, was held on Friday evening, writes Steve Lloyd.
The Westwood A secured a last eight place with a 6-1 win at Castle A. Dave Watson (105 out shot, 18-dart 501), Duncan Cork, Alan James, John Gibbs and Gareth Ashley (17-dart 501) all won for the Westwood A. The doubles were shared.
The Punchbowl also booked their spot by the same 6-1 score against the Lion Caerhowell. Mike Hall, Gary Lewis, Liam Astley, Adam Jones and Gwyn Hughes all won for the Punchbowl while the doubles were shared.
The Green Dragon C went one better with a 7-0 win against the Angel. Martin Gough, Dave Knight, Al Moore, Gethin Stephens and Phil Rollinson and both doubles for the Dragon C.
The Green Dragon A got through in what could be described as a banana skin against the in-form Owl and Pussycat. Paul Bowers, Shaun Humphreys, Rob Shingler, Mitch and Rhys Butler all ensuring a 6-1 win with the doubles shared.
The Compass are through at the expense of the Grapes A, 5-2. Shaun Jones and Keith Bonner winning for the Grapes while Gareth Richards, Cameron Williams, Dan Hosienne and both doubles for the Compass.
The Pheasant edged the Grapes B, 4-3, with Billy Evans, Richard Jenkins and Rob Finney winning for the Pheasant and Rob Jones and Cody Hughes for the Grapes B. The doubles were shared.
The Westwood B negotiated what could have been a tricky tie at home to the Black Lion ensuring their passage into the last eight with a 5-2 win. Jordan Harding, Jamie Cater and Ben Davies won for the home team, while Dan Morgan and Jack Jones made it interesting before the Westwood B took both doubles.
Last but not least the Kings Head A went to the Powis Arms Pool Quay and John Gamble, Kacey Jones, Darren Hyland and Dave Rix all won for the Kings Head A, while Alan Fessy won for the Powis Arms. The doubles were shared, making it 5-2.
As from next week the Pheasant will be playing their home games again from the Pheasant. Many thanks to the Green Dragon for stepping in to accommodate the team.
