Welshpool prepare for Mach battle

10/01/2025 @ 02:10

Following last week's fine away win against Colwyn Bay in Division Two North, Welshpool find themselves back on the road again this week with a trip to Machynlleth, writes Gary Williams.

Always a tough team to beat at home, the Maesydre boys will have to be at their best from the first whistle if they wish to continue their great run which sees them sitting proudly at the top of the table.

Mach struggle on their travels but are pretty formidable on their own pitch. However, Daley Jones, Welshpool Head Coach, stated: “All games are like cup finals for us at the moment. We’re at the top and everybody wants to beat us.

“Again, we’re looking forward to the challenge and believe that we have the firepower to get some points. We won’t underestimate Mach, they’ve had some excellent home victories this season. We expect them to come at us with all guns blazing and we need to be ready for them.”

Elsewhere in the division, Newtown host Dolgellau. After last week’s disappointing defeat at lowly Caernarfon 2nds, Newtown will have to up their game to pick up those valuable winning points against a Dolgellau side which are also having an inconsistent season. Home advantage may be the deciding factor.

In Division One North, COBRA’s home game against Pwllheli has already fallen victim to the freezing conditions, while their 2nd team fixture against Mold 2nds has been postponed due to player unavailability.

in Division Three North East, unbeaten league leaders Llanidloes will be looking to stretch further ahead in the table when they entertain Flint at Cae Hafren.

In the North Wales Youth League, Newtown host COBRA with a 2pm kick-off.
