The formidable father and son duo of Mitch and Rhys Butler have won a memorable Welshpool and District Darts League doubles competition, on a night that also remembered former Welshpool Individual Champion, Pete ‘Pud’ Davies, who died aged just 50 last week, writes Steve Lloyd.
In what was the best turnout of teams for many a year, 27 pairs from both divisions took to the oche.
The early rounds took quite a long time to complete and apologies to the players who did not start until the later stages.
Alan James and Steve Lloyd, Jordan Harding and Jamie Cater were the losing semi-finals as the Green Dragon A’s Butlers faced off against Joe Jones and Jacob Schofield from the Owl and Pussycat.
But it was the in-form father and son who took the title with a 2-0 win despite and strong showing from the Owl lads.
It was a great evening with a superb atmosphere and excellent darts thrown, with Pete remembered remembered before the presentation for the many years he played in the league and also being a former Welshpool Individual Champion.
