Welshpool Darts League is back on the oche!

Darts has made a welcome return with Steve Lloyd bringing his first report of the season from the Welshpool and District Darts League, sponsored by The New Saints FC.

Division One

Last year’s champions, The Green Dragon A, kicked off their season with an emphatic 6-1 win over last year’s Division Two champions, The Westwood A.

Den Williams, Shaun Humphreys (104 out shot), Steve Price and Robin Shingler all won for the Dragon A, with Steve Lloyd replying for the hosts. The Dragon took both of the doubles.

The Compass (last year’s Green Dragon B) took the Red Lion A to task with a 5-2 win. Dan Hoseine, Adam Richards, Brian Jones and Cam Williams winning for the Compass and the impressive Tom Evans replying for the Red Lion A, Llanfair Caereinion. The doubles were shared.

The Kings Head A entertained the Punchbowl with Gareth Steadman (180 and an 18-dart 501), Dave Rix (116 shot out), Kacey Jones (180) and John Gamble winning for the Kings Head A, and Mike Hall replying for the Punchbowl. The Kings Head took the doubles.

Hosts Green Dragon C lost to Westwood B, 2-5 with Matt Knight taking the only singles leg for the Dragon C. Carl Dockerty (180), Jordan Harding, Ben Davies and Jamie Cater won for the Westwood B. The doubles were shared.

The Oak Guilsfield kicked off their season with a win against the Grapes A, 4-3, with Hywell Lloyd, Aled Jones and Mike Walsh winning for the Oak with Andy Ralph and Colin Quinn replying for the Grapes A. The doubles were shared.

Division Two

Castle A started their season off with an impressive 6-1 win at the Angel by taking all of the singles and one of the doubles. Dylon Davies and Jack Lewis won the only game of doubles for the Angel.

New teams Owl & Pussycat and the Pheasant played each other with the Pheasant running out 2-5 winners. Richard Jenkins, Rob Finney, Lewis Evans and Bobby Gough winning their singles with the doubles shared.

The Grapes B beat the Black Lion 4-3 in the latter’s first season.

Powis Arms beat The Lion Caerhowel with Guy Weaver, Charlie Weaver and Jack Pope taking the first three singles for the Lion. Then, Alun Jones and Keith Gallier replied with both doubles going to the Powis Arms.

In a re-arranged match, the Red Lion Misfits lost by the only game 3-4 to the Kings Head B.
