The best in England (as well as Wales!)

Welshpool athlete Adele Nicoll has undoubtedly been the best Welsh shot putter for the past decade, but she carried out a cross border raid to bring back English gold on Sunday.

Thanks to being a team member of Birmingham-based Birchfield Harriers, Adele qualifies to compete at the England Athletics Outdoor Championships which were held over the weekend at the city’s Alexandra Stadium.

Due to commitments to her bobsleigh training and other work events, Adele had only managed one throwing session in the past two weeks, but she was in superb form to take gold by some margin.

“Today was about executing things better than at the British Championships (held last month) and that’s what I did,” she said, clinching victory with a final round throw of 17.11 metres.

Adele’s winning margin was nearly two metres, with second placed Cleo Agyepong throwing 15.2m for silver.
