8x10km Challenge starts Sunday with open invite to all

14/03/2025 @ 03:54

MyWelshpool is fully behind the 8x10km Challenge that gets underway on Sunday with an open invite for all of our readers to get involved.

The challenge is the brainchild of former head teacher, Philip Jones, who has organised a 10km event each day from Sunday, finishing with the Welshpool 10k eight days later.

He is raising money for Parkinson’s UK Cymru with almost £12,000 already raised in the build-up to the Challenge that will see hundreds of school children engaged, alongside anyone who wants to join in.

Sunday’s event sets off from 9.30am from Morrison’s Car Park, and follows a flat course along the canal and back. Participants can run, walk, cycle, or even canoe the distance. There is no charge to join in, as a big part of the challenge is to get people moving, but participants can donate to the charity if they wish.

“It’s come together really well,” said Philip (pictured right during last year's challenge) . “Last year’s 7x10km Challenge was hugely successful, but this year’s event has gone to the next level and I can’t thank everyone enough for their support.”

The Challenge has captured the imagination of the whole area, with a number of schools already holding events to get their pupils moving, whilst raising money in the process.

Below, you can find a full list of events happening, kicking off with Sunday’s open invitation to take part in the initial run, which MyWelshpool will also be joining.

You can also donate to the Challenge by clicking here.
