Amber snow warning touches Welshpool area

07/02/2024 @ 01:48

The north and west of Welshpool could be set for a sprinkling of snow over the next 24 hours after the Met Office issued an Amber Warning for snow and ice.

With so much moisture in the air and temperatures set to drop considerably overnight, a large area of Mid and North Wales are being prepared for snow and ice, while other areas, including Welshpool itself, are set for rain with a Yellow Warning in place.

The Met Office said that up to 10-15cm (4-6in) is expected, but there is a chance of 20-25cm (8-10in) on the higher ground, with likely disruption on our roads network over the coming day or two.

The Met Office warned: “There is a good chance that some rural communities could be temporarily cut off.”

As of 2pm, Wednesday, the Amber Warning comes into play at 8am Thursday and will run until 3pm.
