More than 300 music lovers packed St Mary's Church in Welshpool at the weekend for a performance by the world-famous Treorchy Male Choir, raising almost £2,000 for local charities and community groups.

Despite the poor weather, the concert was hailed as a huge success by organiser Alan Crowe, with audience members travelling from across the UK and even France to attend.

Visitors came from as far afield as Llandudno, Wolverhampton, Cardiff, Cheshire, London, Southampton and Scotland to enjoy the performance.

The evening raised £1,884, which will support a wide range of local organisations and good causes.

Beneficiaries include Pool Quay Church, the Visually Impaired Club, the ENSA Memorial Appeal, Welshpool Rotary Club, St Mary’s Church, Marie Curie, Welshpool 1940s Weekend, the Memorial Benches project, Guilsfield Church and Welshpool Town FC Under-16s.

Funding will also help provide a band for the town’s Remembrance commemorations in 2027.

Following the success of the evening, plans are already underway for the next choir concert, which will feature Rhos Male Choir on Saturday, March 6.

Local clubs, charities and community organisations interested in raising money by selling tickets for the event are invited to contact Alan Crowe on 07782 166342.
