Public meeting to discuss next Carnival called

The first step towards putting on the next Carnival have been taken with a public meeting called for the end of the month.

Last month Welshpool Town Council pledged to do what they can to bring back the parade, with an agreement to specifically invite local businesses, organisations, clubs and community groups to a public meeting on September 30 (6.30pm) at The Royal Oak Hotel.

“To make the Carnival a success, we need people from across our community to get involved,” the Town Council has stated: “We are particularly looking for members of local organisations, businesses, clubs and community groups who would be willing to help with:

• The Carnival Parade – helping to organise and take part in colourful floats, walking groups, and performances.
• Stage Acts & Entertainment – local bands, performers, dance groups, choirs, schools, clubs and other talent who would like to perform on the Carnival stage.
• Event Activities – helping to decide on activities, competitions and attractions for the community to enjoy.
• Planning & Volunteering – getting involved behind the scenes and helping us bring the day together.

“You don't have to be an experienced event organiser – we simply need people who are enthusiastic and willing to get involved.”

The parade was axed this year due to a lack of interests, but the Carnival field itself welcomed increased footfall.

A post-event debrief welcomed a number of members of the public who indicated a wish to become a part of a more independent committee, but under the management of the Town Council.
