Tina Turner simply wasn’t the best

Welshpool Town Council won’t be rushing into hosting future live music events after taking a financial hit on their Tina Turner Tribute night last year.

The local authority has revealed that the night was run at a loss, despite a public poll on social media prior to the event showing that this was exactly the type of act that the town wanted to watch.

At the latest Events & Planning Committee meeting, events co-ordinator Kimberly Wright presented a number of ideas for future live performances at the Town Hall to councillors, but they were met with a lukewarm reception.

Cllr Morag Bailey led the cautious approach by reminding councillors: “Tina Turner didn’t cover the expenses.”

She felt that a rock band may be more popular as a number of people had approached her about the subject.

Ms Wright explained that the Tina Turner act was chosen based on the public poll, and was instructed by councillors to come back with some more options.

It was also advised that she speaks with the organisers of the Welshpool Music Festival for advice, and to also consider local bands as a support act for another potential tribute act, should they decide to proceed.

It was not disclosed at the meeting how much the Town Council lost on the Tina Turner night.
