Welshpool road closures all week as work begins

The welcome work to repair Welshpool’s roads continues this week, but it means a few days of closures.

The teams have today started relaying the road in the Gungrog area, with 8am-6pm closures announced by Powys County Council up until and including Friday.

However, residents have been warned via letter that this schedule could change dependent on unforeseen work required as well as the weather conditions.

They have been assured that access to homes and businesses will remain, and emergency services will also have access.

The work will cover an area from the bottom of Bronwylfa Road to the top of Gungrog Hill.

“The work includes planning off the existing damaged surface, adjusting manhole covers and gulley gratings, laying a new asphalt surface course where required and reinstating the road markings,” Powys council has explained.

Due to the use of hot or corrosive substances, walkers in the area are advised to take care and avoid walking on the newly laid surfaces.

Welshpool’s roads have enjoyed plenty of welcome investment this year, with the Back Road in tip-top shape following its work earlier in the summer.
