Careless rumours about a gas leak at Welshpool Tesco spread like wildfire yesterday, prompting the supermarket giant to clarify what closed the store.
Emergency services rushed to the scene with shoppers asked to immediately leave the store, which remained closed all evening.
But it was back open this morning with a spokesperson telling us: “Our Welshpool Superstore is open as usual following a short closure yesterday evening. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
They told us that after investigation, a fault with the alarm system was discovered which “has now been rectified”, adding that there was no gas leak, and it would be “incorrect and misleading to report otherwise”.
