Welshpool Town Council has been told that the ongoing problems that have resulted in temporary traffic lights on The Cross could continue into July, at least.
Last night, councillors demanded an update on the situation, with the town centre lights being out of action since a shocking January explosion, and some weren’t happy with what they were told.
Cllr Phil Pritchard asked at the monthly full meeting: “Can I ask our county councillors if they have a comment to make on the disgusting state of the traffic lights on The Cross?”
To which, Cllr Graham Breeze responded: “Nothing else to say other than the fact that the Highways Agency are waiting for the parts. It is very disappointing and alarming really but that is the situation and I don’t think we are any closer.”
Town Clerk, Richard Williams, informed councillors that he had written to both the contractors and Welsh Government and had been told that they were expecting the work to be carried out in July.
More questions followed, so Mr Williams said he will invite a representative to the next meeting so that they can be quizzed in person.
The lights from Church Street have become a pinch point with traffic having to merge into single file to pass through, prompting Cllr Chris Davies to say he had been “amazed” that there hadn’t been an accident.
