A local football coach and disability sport advocate is stepping up his fundraising efforts for autism support by taking on the Newtown 10K later this month as well as organising a major charity football match in the town.
Stephen Lewis, who is behind the upcoming “As I Am” charity game at Latham Park in June, will run the Newtown 10K on May 24 as part of his efforts to raise money for the National Autistic Society.
Lewis has already launched a fundraising page, inviting the public to support both the run and the football match. Donations can be made here:

The June 20 match at Latham Park will bring together semi-professional and former professional players alongside local amateur men’s and women’s teams, with all proceeds going to the charity.
Lewis is well known locally for his work in football and advocacy. A qualified coach and one of Wales’ leading disability footballers, he has campaigned for greater inclusion in sport and used his platform to raise awareness of autism and other conditions.
His latest fundraising push builds on that work, combining sport and community activity to support a cause closely linked to his own experiences.
The charity match itself is expected to draw strong local interest, with organisers promising a family-friendly event including food, refreshments and activities, as well as a quieter space for those who need it.
Kick-off is at 3pm at Latham Park, with entry priced at £2 for adults and free for children under 12.
Lewis said he hopes the combination of the 10K run and the football match will help raise both funds and awareness in the run-up to the event, encouraging as many people as possible to get involved or donate.
