Ninth-time lucky as ‘Clean-up Minion’ joins Town Council!

It at first you don’t succeed, try again x 9!

That’s what Kelly Meredith has done by finally being accepted onto Welshpool Town Council after she was the only nomination for the vacant Castle Ward seat.

Known as Welshpool’s Clean-up Minion, Kelly has been on a mission over the past few years to keep Welshpool clean and tidy by cleaning signs and clearing up areas of the town.

She has unsuccessfully tried an incredible eight times to become a town councillor, but it is ninth-time lucky.

“Welshpool Town Council is pleased to confirm that Kelly Meredith is the town’s newest councillor representing Castle Ward, following the publication of the official Statement of Persons Nominated by the Returning Officer at Powys County Council,” the Town Council announced this morning.

“As she was the only candidate, the poll scheduled for March 30, 2026, will not be contested and Kelly Meredith has been declared elected as a community councillor for Welshpool Town Council.

“Welshpool Town Council looks forward to welcoming Cllr Meredith to the authority and working together to support the town and its residents.”
