Football club’s Ladies Lunch raised thousands

A popular annual Ladies Lunch hosted by Berriew Football Club has raised an impressive £3,000 for The League of Friends to The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH).

The sold-out event last November featured a Country & Western theme with guests enjoying a two-course lunch, a raffle and promise auction, followed by Boncyrs Bingo and a disco – making for a lively and memorable afternoon.

Each year, Berriew FC’s Ladies Lunch raises funds for the club alongside a chosen charity, usually one that has supported someone locally.

This year, the decision was made to support the League of Friends at RJAH after members of the committee, players, family and friends had personally experienced care at the hospital.

The event was organised with the help of dedicated volunteers and committee members, including an enthusiastic team of volunteers who waited on tables and compered the afternoon.

The club also praised the continued generosity and support of the local community, which helped ensure the event was a great success.

Victoria Sugden, Friends CEO, said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone at Berriew Football Club and to all those who attended the Ladies Lunch.

“Raising £3,000 is a fantastic achievement and this support will make a real difference to patients and staff at RJAH. It’s wonderful to see a local club choosing to support a charity so close to so many people’s hearts.”

Louise, Berriew FC Secretary, added: “The hospital has supported so many people connected to our club, so choosing the League of Friends felt very personal and very important to us.

“The lunch was a brilliant day and we were overwhelmed by the support from our community. We’re delighted to be able to donate £3,000 and would like to thank everyone who helped make the event such a success.”
