An election will be held on March 30 should there be enough names put forward, Welshpool Town Council has confirmed.

The official notice, issued by Powys County Council’s Returning Officer, formally opens the nomination period for candidates wishing to stand for election, and anyone interested has until March 4 to submit their nomination form.
If the election is contested, polling day will take place on Monday, March 30, and residents who wish to take part in the democratic process are reminded to check they are registered to vote. The deadline to register is midnight on 12 March 2026, with further deadlines in place for postal and proxy vote applications later in March.
Town Clerk, Richard Williams, said: “Local democracy plays an important role in shaping the future of Welshpool.
“We encourage anyone who is passionate about their community to consider standing for election and to contact the Returning Officer for further information about the nomination process.”
